Advisors to the Interim Government of Bangladesh

The swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Advisor and Advisors of the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was held in Bengali on 24th Shravan 1431 and in English on 8th August 2024. The total number of advisers to the interim government is 17. 

Names and identities of advisers to the Interim Government of Bangladesh


The chief advisor is - Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist. He is the founder of Grameen Bank. Since winning the Nobel Peace Prize along with Grameen Bank, Professor Yunus has gained fame beyond Bangladesh.

The other 16 advisors are:
1. Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed – He is a prominent financier and former governor of Bangladesh Bank. He graduated in Economics from Dhaka University and did his Masters in Economics from Dhaka University in 1969. He joined his department as a lecturer in 1970. He received his PhD in Economics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada in 1978. Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed served as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank from 2005 to 2009.

2. Dr. Asif Nazrul - Born on January 12, 1966, Asif Nazrul is a writer, novelist, constitutional expert, columnist and political analyst. He is a professor in the law department of Dhaka University. He completed his graduation in 1986 and graduated in 1987 from this department. He completed a PhD Degree from the University of London. He later earned a post-doctoral fellowship from the Environmental Law Center in Bonn, Germany.

3. Adilur Rahman Khan – He is a lawyer and former Attorney General. He is a prominent human rights activist in the country. He is the founder and editor of Adhikar, a human rights organization.

4. A. F Hasan Arif - He is the former Attorney General. Served as Attorney General from 2001 to April 28, 2005. He served as an adviser on law, justice, and parliamentary affairs to the former caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmad.

5. Md Tauhid Hossain - He is the former foreign secretary of the country. Former High Commissioner of Bangladesh in South Africa. Joined Bangladesh foreign service in 1981. From January 1999 to February 2000, Touhid Hossain served as the principal of the Foreign Service Academy.

6. Syeda Rezwana Hasan - Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association 'BELA' and lawyer of the Supreme Court. She has always been vocal on the issue of justice for nature and the environment. She won the International Women of Courage Award 2022. He received the title of Heroes of the Environment by Time magazine in 2009. He also received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2012. She is going to take up the challenge of confronting the country with the risk of climate change against the development activities that destroy the environment.

7. Md. Nahid Islam - He is the member secretary of Dhaka University's Ganotantrik Chhatra Shakti student organization and one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.

8. Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan - He is the head of Dhaka University's student organization called Ganotantrik Chhatra Shakti and a coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement.

9. M. Sakhawat Hossain – A retired Brigadier General of the Bangladesh Army. He is also a security analyst and author. Served as a Commissioner of the Election Commission during the caretaker government in 2007. At that time, he achieved success in organizing an acceptable election in the country. When Bangladesh became independent in 1971, he returned to the country in 1973 and joined the Comilla Cantonment as a Major.

10. Supradeep Chakma - He is a former ambassador. He is currently serving as the Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board.

11. Farida Akhter - She was born in Halda village of Chandanish police station of Chittagong district. He is the executive director of policy-making research on development options for non-governmental organizations and a member of the board of trustees of Ganoviswa Vidyalaya. She has worked intensively for almost three decades on women's development, health, agriculture, fisheries, textile industry, garment industry and labor population, and developmental issues.

12. Prof. Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar - He was the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health. Prior to this, he was the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

13. Abul Faiz Mohammad Khalid Hussain - He is an Islamic scholar, writer, and researcher. He is the former Naib Amir of Hefazat Islam Bangladesh.

14. Noorjahan Begum - She is the former Managing Director of Grameen Bank. Since the birth of Grameen Bank, she worked with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for more than two decades. He is a person who works at the field level for women's development.

15. Dr. Sharmin Murshid - She is a Bangladeshi movement activist and the chief executive officer of the non-governmental election monitoring organization 'Brati'.

16. Farooq-E-Azam - He is a heroic freedom fighter and a naval commando. His house is in Hathazari of Chittagong district. In 1971, he was the deputy commander of this elite group for the attack on the Chittagong port, the only coordinated war effort, Operation Jackpot, in the Great War of Liberation.
